Travelling down to Ye Old Cheshire Cheese (one of London’s oldest pubs) yesterday in a cab, I found it intriguing to discover a new ‘niche’ area of London – ie one small area (smaller than China Town) that specialises in a certain type of product.
I was impressed to learn from the old Cockney geezer of a cab driver that Hatton Garden is ‘the diamond centre‘ for London – and indeed he was right as we passed jeweller after jeweller with all the pretty sparkly ‘rocks’ in the window! He also told me there were ‘some pretty amazing heist over the years’.
So this can be added to other specialty areas such as:
* Aldwych – for silver and gemstones
* Portobello Road – for antiques
* Saville Row – for men’s tailors
* Borough Market – for veg and game
* New Covent Garden – for flowers
* Bond Street – for fashion
* Petticoat Lane – for leather coats
Please feel free to add any others! ; )
