Film review: Caramel
Rating: **** (out of 5)

For those who love both light-hearted and foreign flicks, then you’ll find this affecting movie, Caramel, a worthwhile view. Set around the goings-on of a hair salon, and following the lives of women who work there, several stories criss-cross, and serve up to its viewers, a slice of daily life in Lebanon.
In some ways, this Middle Eastern culture is very similar to ours – the majority of the population are middleclass and well-dressed. However, unlike us, armed police and religion mixed with law are a standard part of everything. Eg for a woman to book a hotel room for a couple, she needs special ID.
The five or so storylines in this film are mainly tales of love and have a clever dialogue and deliciously interesting plotlines.
For those who are looking for an engaging bit of celluloid based around Middle Eastern culture, then this is worth a view.
