Found the following stories interesting and wanted to share. Overall, not very rosey news this week : ( …
Government will spy on every email and call
Nutshell: The government are thinking of spending up to £12 billion to monitor and store internet browsing habits, email and telephone records of everyone in Britain.
Comment: Don’t they have enough to do or better ways to spend our money?
Prices rises to force cuts in water use
Nutshell: The government wants to cut water usage per Briton by introducing mandatory water meters in home and also steeply raising prices for water usage.
Comment: Rationing water usage makes sense with meters. However raising prices steeply is extremely unfair – particularly to people who are on low wages or poor. In my opinion, raising utility prices and taxes – drastically above inflation over the past few years – is one of the reasons why there is a recession right now.
Other stories I can’t find links to…
OJ Simpson trial coverage
Comment: comprehensive coverage
Travel section’s feature on 10 award-winning hotels in Britain and Ireland.
Comment: Worth a look as rooms start at B&B for £140 up and some of the places are very pretty!
