Film review: The X Files: I Want to Believe
Rating: *** (out of 5)
Review by: Alexa Williamson
If you liked the X Files series for the unexplained phenomena that were continually explored, then you’ll like this movie as more of the same is looked into (instead of focussing only on aliens as the first film did). Women are disappearing from the town around a local swimming pool and only a psychic, paedophile ex-priest (who is working with the FBI) seems to have any clues as to what is happening to them.
To help them deal with the priest, Mulder and Scully are called onto the case – Scully out of retirement (as she is back working as a doctor) and Mulder who is in isolation, hiding from the FBI. Set around Richmond, VA, we watch as they track down the men who are kidnapping people to harvest body parts from for, shall we say, bizarre experiments.
Tense, and having a well-detailed plot, the movie is gory and enjoyable, with David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Billy Connolly all delivering excellent acting. Much more interesting than the first movie.
